Chemical light — the origin of the phenomenon

Chemical light occurs during chemical reactions that emit energy in the form of light. This phenomenon is used in various fields such as chemistry, pharmacy, photography and others.

Chemical light can occur as a result of the following processes:

  1. Oxidation-reduction. Chemical light often occurs during oxidation-reduction (oxidation-reduction) reactions. During these reactions, one substance loses electrons (oxidized), and another substance accepts these electrons (reduced). This provokes the excitation of atoms or molecules, which produce energy in the form of light.
  2. Photoluminescence Some substances have the property of photoluminescence, that is, they can emit light under the action of light or another source of energy. This property is used in chemistry to produce light signals, such as phosphors in LEDs.
  3. Chemiluminescence. This phenomenon consists in the appearance of light during chemical reactions not related to external light. The most famous example is the light emission that accompanies the oxidation of luminol in the presence of hydrogen peroxide.

Because chemical light is the result of a chemical reaction of certain substances. It is important to be careful with reagents, because some of them are very toxic, so their contact with the skin can be dangerous.

Chemical light application

Chemical light source has various origins, respectively, applications. Some of the main ones include:

  1. Chemical analysis. It is used to detect certain substances such as pheromones, hormones or pathogens based on chemiluminescent reactions. Determination of the concentration of antibodies or antigens in biological samples using chemiluminescent markers.
  2. Medicine: Chemiluminescent markers are used to label biomolecules such as DNA, RNA or proteins in research and diagnostics. Some substances that emit light during chemical reactions can be used for photodynamic therapy, for example, in the treatment of certain types of cancer.
  3. Photography and renderings. Some photosensitive substances can be used to produce chemical light in photography or visualization of objects.
  4. Security and detection. Some materials can be used to highlight traces or mark objects: Chemiluminescence can be used to identify and determine the concentration of various chemicals.
  5. Lighting. Chemical light is used for the manufacture of artificial light sources — lanterns, light sticks, etc.

This indicates a wide range of possibilities for using chemical light sources, in particular, in science, medicine, manufacturing tactical equipment, etc.

What is a chemical lamp?

Chemical lantern — is a lighting device that uses chemical reactions to produce light to work in the dark. This device usually contains two parts: containers with chemical reagents and an internal partition that holds these reagents.

The basic principle of a chemical lantern is that two substances react with the participation of a catalyst, resulting in a redox reaction that releases energy in the form of light. Such a reaction can last for a long time.

Chemical lights are used in various areas. In particular, they are actively used by tourists and the military. Their popularity is due to numerous advantages — compactness, waterproofness, environmental friendliness, safety and lack of power supply. Thanks to this, when you find yourself in extreme conditions, you will always have a light source at hand. If you are going on a tourist trip or are a participant in military operations, then it is definitely worth buying a chemical weapon.

Where to buy chemical lights?

You can buy a chemical light source inexpensively in the "PROF1GROUP" online store. There are a lot of disposable chemical lights both individually and in sets. The time of light emission varies depending on the manufacturer. On average — 8 hours. You can get acquainted with the prices and detailed information about each product in its description.
