Wet feet during a mission or training cause significant discomfort. It is also a potential health threat, which should never be allowed. When performing tactical tasks in conditions of increased humidity, regular boots quickly get soaked. Modern tactical footwear with a membrane solves this problem, keeping the feet dry in rain, snow, and when crossing water obstacles.
At PROF1GROUP, we offer only proven models used by professional military personnel and special forces officers. We sell reliable footwear — part of the gear that determines the mobility and effectiveness of a soldier.
Types of Membranes Used
A membrane is a special material with micropores that does not let water in from the outside but wicks moisture away from the foot. The main types of membranes used in tactical footwear are:
- Gore-Tex® — the most famous and reliable membrane, developed in 1969. Gore-Tex boots provide 100% protection against moisture thanks to a structure made of stretched polytetrafluoroethylene with 9 billion pores per square inch. Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet but 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule.
- eVent — a membrane with Direct Venting™ technology, which accelerates moisture transfer due to direct access to the pores without intermediate layers.
- OutDry® — a technology where the membrane is bonded to the outer material without seams, eliminating the possibility of water entering between layers.
- Sympatex® — does not contain fluorocarbons, more eco-friendly than other membranes, while stretching 300% without damaging its structure.
Tactical footwear with a membrane that has a waterproof rating of 10,000 mm water column will reliably protect against precipitation and puddles. At the same time, the moisture vapor permeability rating should be at least 10,000 g/m²/24h for effective moisture transfer from the foot.
Advantages
Breathable membrane tactical footwear has several advantages that make it indispensable for soldiers and special forces officers:
- Complete waterproofness — protection from external moisture in all conditions.
- Moisture transfer — the foot stays dry even under intense load.
- Thermoregulation — in winter models, insulation is often added, which, in combination with the membrane, retains warmth.
- Windproofing — the membrane prevents cold air from passing through, protecting the feet from cooling.
- Anatomical fit — modern tactical boots take into account the features of the foot during long marches.
- Shock absorption — special inserts reduce the strain on joints during running and jumping.
- Resistance to aggressive environments — salt, reagents, oils do not damage the membrane.
Autumn and spring are the most relevant seasons for membrane tactical boots. However, many models are suitable for year-round use. Even in summer, the membrane will protect from sudden rain, and in winter, it will complement insulation.
