Headlight: the history of appearance

Headlamps, or they are also called frontal, arose as a response to the needs of people for work and recreation in conditions of limited light, when free hands are needed.

The first headlamps appeared at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, when they began to use electricity. However, those early models were heavy and bulky and not very comfortable for long-term use. During the First World War, headlamps became quite popular among the military. However, their number was extremely limited.

With the development of technology, headlamps have become more compact, lighter and, accordingly, more efficient. New light sources have appeared, for example, such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which provide bright light with minimal energy consumption. Gradually, headlamps ceased to be only part of the equipment of the military and rescuers. They are widely used in various fields such as tourism, fishing, repair work, camping, etc.

Tactical headlamp: selection options

Many factors influence the choice of a headlamp. In the range of stores there are many models that differ in various parameters. We suggest you take a closer look at them to make it easier to choose:

  1. Power. Each lantern is designed to produce a certain amount of light. This parameter is defined in lumens. The higher its indicators, the brighter the flashlight can shine. For example, a lantern with a capacity of 100 to 150 lumens will be enough for everyday needs in the country, and more powerful ones are needed for territory protection or rescue special operations — from 1000 to 15000 lumens.
  2. Range of the beam. Depending on the power, the distance over which the tactical flashlight can scatter light varies. The standard indicator is considered to be 50 meters, but this parameter can reach much higher marks. In some models, the range of the beam can be adjusted.
  3. Color of light. The color of the light emitted by the lantern can be important depending on the specific application. Warm shades (yellow light) are more pleasing to the eye, while cold shades (blue and white light) provide brighter and more natural light. Lights with red light, in turn, help to navigate the terrain more easily, while it is not visible from afar. In addition, if you suddenly turn off the flashlight, there will be no feeling of darkness in the eyes, so it will be much easier to get used to the darkness. This is a great option for a military conspiracy.
  4. Food. Headlamps are rechargeable, LED and batteries. A small built-in solar panel is sometimes used as an additional power source. They are often combined with each other to achieve greater efficiency.
  5. Time of autonomous operation. Headlamps are autonomous light sources, so they work for a limited amount of time, after which they need charging. The duration of operation depends on the type of power supply, power, ambient conditions, as well as on the glow mode.
  6. Class of protection. This parameter indicates the tightness of the case, namely protection against the ingress of mechanical particles and moisture inside, which can lead to serious problems.

In addition to the listed characteristics, the size, weight and type of attachment of the flashlight are also important. High-quality and functional models are light, which allows you to wear them on your head for a long time without feeling discomfort. Each model has a strap with which you can adjust the circumference of the head for convenience. There are also often models with an additional transverse strap that provides additional fixation. It is not uncommon for the military and special services to have a need for tactical lights on their helmets. Thanks to the adjustable latches, you can easily adjust the tactical headlamp according to your needs.
