The Swiss military avalanche probe (original) is designed to locate people buried under an avalanche. This model of the Swiss military probe was used in the 1930s–1940s to accurately detect objects deeply buried in snow. The probe could also be fixed in the snow and used as a marker to maintain orientation in a specific area. This probe is intended not only for snow use but can also be used to determine the water depth beneath a boat.
The Swiss military probe consists of four equal sections (110 cm each) that connect to one another. The avalanche probe sections are made of aluminum, which ensures low weight. The set includes an original leather case for carrying and storing the probe in its folded state.
